VISION > Overview
Under the guidance of the CVRD, Bamberton has revisited its development plans to better meet the immediate needs of the region. In contrast to the previous application (2010), which included a combination of residential, commercial and industrial uses being developed concurrently over the period of 25+ years, this revised application focuses on adding select commercial/light industrial/retail/tourism uses - zoning that the CVRD feels the community needs most in the immediate future.
With this new application, approximately 430,000 sq ft of commercial / light industrial space, would be built at over approximately 25 years, and mainly in brownfield or previously logged areas.
This addition of light industrial and commercial activities to the site reflects the region's immediate need for job creation, and the uses that the CVRD feels would most benefit the area. In the short-term, uses would include:
- the creation of a commercial/light industrial business park to create business opportunities and jobs in the area.
- new tourism operators, including a zip-line, eco-adventure park.
As part of this rezoning process, Bamberton Properties LLP is moving to protect significant portions of the Southlands, by placing a protective covenant over approximately 270 acres and donating a further 30 acres at McCurdy Point as parkland to the CVRD.
